I am looking to take the family somewhere different this summer. I have never been to the area. I am from Omaha, NE. This looks like a good area to me. The wife would like an area where there is a little to do for her and my 3 and 5 year old daughters. We will be camping in a Pop-up camper. I will not be able to pull my boat. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good campground/resort with boat rental. Along with walleye fishing, I love to fish for smallies, pike and anything else that swims. It looked like the Chippiwa flowage area would be a good choice. Thanks for any input in advance.

I know a number of people from my area that fish the flowage but I've not been up there myself having always gone to MN. Still will be but figure on trying that area myself some weekends as my son went to work for Forest Service up there. Also want to try Lost Land and Lac Courte Oreilles. I'm sure there's a bunch on here that have been on them all and the ones I know from down here have liked the flowage and keep going back. FWIW

Here's a link to a campground on the Chip... http://www.lakechip.com/

Then there are two or three campgrounds on Nelson Lake that are great for kids....

Also, stay anywhere and you can find lakes to fish and boats to rent on almost any of the lakes...

If you want some specifics e-mail me here and I'll get you some more links if you have some specific ideas or desires... Horses... tubing... you name it it's available in Hayward. Or close by...

Lakewoods resort on Lake Namekagan(sp?) near Cable WI is a great family resort, boat rental, and a good multi-species fisheries. Certainly one of the best in the area.-lb

Not sure on the campground part, you'll have to call up or do an internet search to see what they have on that.-lb

SJ,

Depending on what your tastes run for crowds and things to do Hayward has almost anything you'd desire to do. There is the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, Flea Markets, Craft shows, golf, Go-Karts, Horseback riding, tubing and canoeing, Casino, and The Lumber Jack Championships, etc... The fishing isn't bad either depending on what your after. There are numerous places to camp, rent boats or affordable cabins etc.. with boat rentals.

If you'd like some info on the fishing up there shoot me an email and I'd be glad to help anyway I could.

Good luck.

Lake Chippewa Campground is good place. I took my son who just turned 6 last year and he wants to go back. We rented a travel trailer on a site near the boat ramp. While walking through the campground he could tell you the make of the boat by seeing the tow vehicle. Be sure to take the family over to Famous Dave's on nearby Round Lake for a meal. If you're onterested in a guide while there e-mail Joel Tinker (musky40lb@earthlink.net), he has a seasonal trailer there in the campground.

SJ,

Check out http://www.woodalls.com/shop/display.cfm?productID=DW-NCD3-800 for a book that does an excellent job on rating campgrounds. We're looking into going to Lake Chippewa Campground this summer with our 2 year old. Hope to see you there.

Dave.

Regarding Lake Namakagon
2 campgrounds on the lake A private and a Federal campground
I have stayed at both.
Federal campground is rustic, No showers OR Electric.
Private campground (Island View) has showers and Electric and boat rentals. Very nice place. Lake is good multi-species lake!
