I've got a Crestliner 1750---Going to be mounting an X-15 on the dash but going to use my Garmin 162 as my GPS--Problem: I don't think there is going to be enough room to mount both. I did buy RAM mounting hardware so it can swivel which does give me more room. To get right to the point though, would you guys just sell the 162 and buy the GPS module for the X-15 or do you prefer to have 2 separate units for doing each function??--I personally like to have the 2 separate units because if running only one, and it goes down for some reason, you are with out both.(My reasoning anyway)----Any ideas out there for those of you who may have run into the same "limited space problem"?? Thanks much!..........Ray(Upnorthwalleye)

Ray,

I personally have two seperate units on my dash that are GPS/locators. As you stated I like having seperate units running in the GPS mode and locator mode. My boat allows me the space to run two units of this size on the dash with Ram mounts and have my compass in between them for quick reference. The Ram mounts allow you the flexability to change angles and adjust the units to your liking. Don't know if you've seen one of their mounts that will allow for mounting to the side of a counsel and swing away or into a position of your choosing. My father used this on his boat as he had limited space on his dash and was only able to mount a fishfinder and compass. He then mounted his GPS to this swinging mount.

I run my LMS 350A and X15 unit side by side. The only problem is that I get interference if I try to run both in depthfinder mode as there is signal interference. When I'm running from spot to spot I run the 350A in depthfinder mode and the X15 as a mapping GPS. Once I've found what I'm looking for or the spot on the GPS that I want to fish I run the X15 in depthfinder mode and that works great for me. I like the seperate screens and I like the fact that if I'm out 10 or 15 miles on Erie or Michigan that I have a back up. Never hurts. I've got one GPS module in the back and one up front.

If you can get both units on the dash I'd go for it. Also check the frequency of each unit. There may be enough difference that you can run both in all modes at the same time. I'd also get the GPS module for the X15. Can't be too safe, and it's a great unit, easy to use once you've used it for a while.

Just my .02.

Thanks Jim----I really don't have to worry about interference as the Garmin 162 is a stand alone GPS unit only. I did look at the RAM side mount and may have to go to that if the RAM mount I ordered doesn't work--Will keep you posted. Once again, thanks for your .02---When many offer their .02, you end up with a wealth of info!!! Thanks......Ray(Upnorthwalleye)

I agree with the way you are thinking. I go with a stand alone gps.
