Should one put eyes on jigs or not? Do the fish care if the Jig has eyes?

I always put black eyes on jigs. I think they help. Shad Raps have black eyes on the tail. Minnows have black eyes on their tails as a defense mechanise against bigger fish, so I guess the more realistic the better!

You should if you have the time, I have read studies that fish do pay attention to detail, in particular when you are dealing w/ low water temps. and there metabolism is at it's lowest point. you have to fish slower at these times of the year. I use a black background and put a small dot of flourescent in the center. then finish w/ clear vinyl to seal the eyes/paint if it's a 2-tone. for the people that know me that's a "Retna" and they are always begging for them.

Jig eyes, you bet even when there only 1/8 oz.On larger jigs, I go crasy.I make the best jigs that I have ever seen. There one of a kind, custom colors you can't buy.I use vinyl paint, mix the paint,to get the color I'm after.Been doing this a long time. Most of my jigs have up to 7 different colors on them. When I put a shassy shad or twister tail on my jig it looks alive, over kill not hardly keeps my livewell full.Been working on a new color this winter, chat.with a greenish hint to it.Bingo got it right,it's brighter than glow. Ought to work in dirty miss. river water. The walleyes have never seen these jigs before, gives me the edge.I do it because I love to. Bob J pool 12

Yes. I've read studies that fish focus on the eyes when preparing to attack. That's also why many fish sport a false eye on their tail as a defense mechanism. The predator fish strikes at the wrong end then. Eyes are critical for animals, even fish.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

You guys really want to take those eyes to the next level buy some of the wiggly doll eyes at a craft store - they even make a rattling noise - glue 'em on with airplane glue or hot melt glue - shhhh don't tell my fishing partners. Carry a big tackle box and never let 'em see your jigs! ;) Chuckles
