Recently purchased an X75. Having trouble getting fish arches. Have tried: auto mode w/ fish ID off and adjusted sensitivity, manual mode and adjusted sensitivity until much clutter and then backed off, & drifted w/ all accessories off and still nothing. Transducer is approx. 20" from prop, direct hookup to starting battery, and battery fully charged. Cavitation and interference does not seem to be a problem. Have spent countless hours (not fishing) trying to get the thing to work. Any suggestions?

You sure you're over fish? Are you marking bottom structure fine? What's the water depth? Try it in deep water so your cone size will be larger and see if it makes a difference. I used to have one on my previous boat and it worked great. Also, I can't remember whether you can set grayline like on the 350A, but if so, set it to 31%. Otherwise, it sounds like you're doing everything right.

Manual mode is the only way to go IMHO.

Your transducer should be about 1/8 of an inch lower than the bottom of your boat? Also try playing with the transducer angle. I run mine with the back of the transducer a little lower than the front. I did have to adjust it a couple of times to get the right angle.

Everyone wants to see the classic fish arch but conditions have to be just right.

Check the "pro page" for some tips.

Good fishing.

I have tried many depths and even zoomed in at preset levels but still no results. The question of whether I'm over fish I guess needs to be determined. The bottom structure does not show very well only in the auto mode - I seem to get lots of dots. As for the transducer, I have it mounted an 1/8 if not more below the hull. Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

Bill, are you seeing anything on the graph? If not you're probably not over fish. At rigging speeds you will not see arches but horizontal lines. For arches you need to be moving faster, maybe 0.8-2.0 mph. Using the zoom function will accentuate any arches also. Several times for me, arches shown using the zoom function will show up as lines without the zoom.

John,
I do see some vertical lines - I think I might have been confusing what was fish as weeds. I will try to increase my speed to what you suggested and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

Might be a faulty transducer too. Is the bottom scuffed, marred, etc?

I have an X-65 and an X-75. The X-65 on the bow and I like this one the best. I have sent the X-75 in and they say nothing is wrong with it. I use it in the manual position and still find it wanting.

I have an X85 and had similiar problems. The transducer was not working correctly and was replaced. If the unit is under warranty I would bring it back and get it checked out.
Good luck: Frank

I have had an x 85 for almost 31/2 years ( same one ) Had to adjust the forward/ backward angle of trans after 1st trip then all was fine. Make sure you turn your scroll speed up to max. also set the angle a little lower in the back of the trans. you have to set it to the angle that your boat sits in the water while fishing not how it rides on the trailer. Excellent graph can mark small fish in arches as well as big ones. Hope this helps.
