Hi, I've never really tried walleye fishing before. We've done plenty of perch and bass fishing in the Cape Vincent area and lots of trout and salmon trolling out of Rochester. Basically what I'm looking for is any info for walleye fishing based around the Cape Vincent area. Spots, rigs, lures, what ever you want to share. All will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Pete

OK, I'll ask. Any relation to Babe?

Hehe, No. We call him cousin Babe and I've met him and all, but no. Otherwise I'd know already!

Pete..You're talking about one of the best "BIG" walleye areas and best kept secrets around. I do most of my walleye fishing on the east end of Erie, but did hit Cape Vincent area last year and know several guys that fish it heavily. The hogs from Quinte come over to the cooler water in the summer and suspend off the mouth of the river and up to Carlton Island. The edges of Charity Shoal back to the mouth of Mud Bay are also a hot spot. The water can get rough, but the fish may be worth it. 12 to 14 pounders are not uncommon. Mid-depth trolling with worm harnesses or spoons work well. Make sure you let us know how you make out..Darn..you got me so excited I think I'll take next week off and head that way! Good Fishing, Sluggo-aboard the "Sculpin "

Sluggo,
BUBA,

Question for you guys - two years ago I was up there the 2nd week of October and stayed just outside of Cape Vincent. Our dock was right across from the eastern tip of Carlton Is. We fished that area around Carlton and eastward HEAVILY for a week and were VERY disappointed with the catching. We fished both daylight and late into the evening, 10:30 p.m. Drifting harnesses, trolling, cranking, you name it. What did we do wrong? Or, were we in the wrong place? The weather was conducive to a good Walleye bite.

The reason I am asking is I had heard all the great reports about the fishing and expected far better results. I liked the area and would plan to go back, but......
