Is it worthwhile to purchase a 3000 over the SX ? Will the depth track work well when fishing waves with the bow bouncing up and down two and three feet or would you have to switch to manual control? Would a person use the creek or shore options of the 3000 for normal Mn. and Nd. walleye fishing? thanks for the help
I just bought the 3000 series. I bought it so that I could follow that break without having to be at the controls. As for waves there isn't any trolling motor that would stay on a break in 3 ft waves. I wanted to be able to see to the sides as well as down. The sx only looks for fish down same as the transom mount. Thats 2 looking down, the 3000 has 5 directions it looks plus the transom . Thats 6 looking everywhere. Is it worth the extra money? Don't know yet. Ask grandpa_joe I think he has one. Hope this helps, Craig

I have used Pinpoints for 2 years now. I have only use shore track once, and that time was to see how well it worked. I have never used the creek channel track, so for me this year I'm going with the 2000 series Positioning Motor. I can not say that you would never used it, you may fish differently the me, but for me I didn't ever use these two modes.
As far as Depth Tracking in rough water it does a good job, the one thing I did notice is that when the wind is behind you it does blow the transom of the boat around some.
You must make the choice on where the 2000 or 3000 sreies is right for you but for me this year I'm going with the 2700.
Either way you will love your Pinpoint Positioning
Motor.

I have had 3 of the 3000 series and last year I had a 2000 series. I am putting another 2000 series on my boat this week. I personally didn't use creek track a single time in three years and I only used shore track a few times fishing sheer rock walls in Canada. I just didn't use the 3000 series for anything but bottom tracking anyway. Like Mike said, you may fish differently than I do though.
Mine have done a better job in the wind than I ever expected it to. If it's super windy, use it manually. It will still do everything a "regular" trolling motor will do and more. One thing you can do to help when going with the wind is throw a drift bag out the back of your boat or one of the back corners. It slows you down as well as providing a pivot point.

I bought the 3700, not so much for the additional tracking modes, but for the increased view of the water around me.
Almost never use the side-looking transducers, but the angle-lookers when used in conjunction with the down-looker on my 7520 give me a whole new level of understanding of the underwater situation near my boat.
In my book, the extra transducers are worth the bucks.

Hans,
Can you view all 3 of the transducers at one time. The straight down, and the 2 to the sides of that one. Seems like it would be a great value in shallow water.

Yes, you can.
I have the 7520 sonar and a 3700-series motor, so have 6 transducers available (1 on the transom, and 5 in the 3700 motor).
The 7520 screen is pretty wide. You can view any single transducer, or split the screen into 2 or 3 windows and view multiple transducers at the same time. Using the straight-down and the two adjacent angle-lookers gives you a great view, often showing you fish hanging just a bit deeper or shallower on the breakline than the single downlooking transducer will show you.

I don't know about fishing in those states....
but fishing in MI the extra features of the 3700 have been worth the $$$.
For example: slipping the current of a river sideways with your boat.
The center right or center left can now be forward looking and alert you of fish. This I've used quite often and love it!
It's nice to have extra tools and experiment with them..
