View Full Version : Diawa 27 linecounter with 10/4 fireline ???
How much 10 lb mono backing do I put on the reel if I want to put 500 feet of fire line on top of the mono. I bought a 1000yd spool of fireline and divided by six rods is 500 feet each. I would guess but I am sure that I would end up running short by the sixth rod. Thanks Reef
Recomended that you put on the same diamiter as the fireline and about 30%mono. In other words 500 ft of fireline and about 130 to 150 ft of mono.
Here's what you do when you have more than 1 reel to fill & you need to determine the correct amount of backer line. You need line counter, but your reels have one so you are OK. Tie the fire line onto the spool of 1 of the reels ( no backer). Crank on 500' (actually I'd go for more like 650' if your using the counter on the reel) Then fill the spool with backer line. watching how much of that you use. Then reverse the lines onto the reel that they will be used on. And you have the proper length backing required. The reason I say 650' has to do with being down on the spool. All mechanical line counters under estimate the amount of line when you are down on the spool. Check on the first one, and see how close you guessed, when you reverse the line and adjust accordingly. If you have a reel fill station, it takes the guess work out of it. Hope this makes sense. Good fishing.
