View Full Version : LOW trip need adv on cranks?
Hello to all!
I am heading up to Arnesen's Rocky Point resort
on Lake of the Woods MN this Wed-Sun.(19th-23).
I am looking to troll cranks the old fashion way....Long linin'.
I am looking to troll Reff Runners(RR).
Does anyone have favorites for LOW eyes?
I have used Rapalas DownDeep Rattlin' Fat Rap
with ok success last year. Does anyone use other
cranks the you could get down 25' /- with fireline?
Any advice would be great!
Thanx again!
Butch

Magnum Wally diver on 6 lb fireline will get 25'with ease.
I haven't tried Wally Diver's.
Colors? How do they compare against other's?
Have you used them up at the woods?
Thanx again!

i use downriggers to get the cranks down deep.
have thought about dipsys or clip on weights
and probably will try them behind planer boards
this summer. i dont have the answer on longlineing
but will take notes on other replys..it is something i have wanted to know for quite a while.
good question...(thanks for asking)

Haven't been to LOTW for a few years, but did much better jigging rock reefs (leeches or salted minnows)than trolling. especially in july - Kevin B
The best producing cranks for me have been walley divers and Hot n Tots. Prefer the Tot's due to the metal lip which doesen't break off when it's banging rock. Best color of Tot: silver, metallic silver, perch and chartruse tiger for northern. I think it's the 3/8 oz size not the magnum size.

I don't fish LOW more than once a year so I am no expert but Wally divers have worked for us there. We have generally run perch, firetiger Silver w/ black and kind of a yellowish perch (don't know what they call it). My brother refuses to troll w/ less than 10 lb fireline. I use 6 and get 3-5 feet deeper than he does and get twice as many hook-ups while losing a couple more baits. I like the Wally Divers in places where I think I might lose baits because I'm too cheap to use Shad Raps and Reef Runners. I can usually find the Wally Divers for less than $3 ea. and as such run them more aggressively w/ lighter line which results in more fish. I like the big profile of the larger Wally diver at night.
Thanx for all the advice....
I will look for all.
I have Hot-N-Tots. But cannot find some of the sizes I want.
I have smaller wally divers but will look at larger.
Thanx again keep the help coming!

We got back Sat. July 15 from LOW. Cranks were not working. Live bait - leeches and nite crawlers on spinners (sliver seem to be the best color). We got our limit both days fishing 8 to 22 feet on rock piles. We tried down riggers and walleye divers in 28 to 32 feet. We were marking alot of fish but no takers. We fished south of Long point on rock piles. Lots of boats fishing the flats but not much action.
Good Luck The Worm Dunker
Thanx for the info.
Yep we have a pound of leeches
and a flat of crawler's...
Last year (early Aug.) we had goo luck
trolling cranks. Larger fish but fun!
See ya on the H2O!

I fish LOW all the time. We just got back Sunday night. We bailed "eyes" flat lining shad raps in 8 ft. Perch was the best color
