I am thinking about purchasing a set of side planers such as Yellow Birds. I would like to use them in a river (for walleye) that sometimes has quite a strong current. How do they release? Do they slide down the line when the release is tripped? Any suggestions?

Yellow Birds should work well in the current. It might be difficult to detect the bite. Yellow Birds are designed to slide down the line upon release. I don't use the release that comes with them. I use Off-shore releases. Usually the black ones. You might consider the Off-shore boards with the tattle flags.

Yellow birds work if you are not trolling real deep running cranks or if your not in too big of waves. I retired mine and use off-shore now.
