I bought my colorpoint about two years ago. This past ice season it acted up a bit - in certain situations I could not locate my jigs and the screen would flash thin yellow lines.

I spoke with a zercom rep at the MN sportshow about it. He said bring it back to the retailer and they will give me a full replacement. He said zercom released the early units with bad transducers. I tried to exchange it only for the retailer to tell me to go through zercom.

Has anybody had a similar experience with their colorpoints? Have you been able to exchange it for a new with a retailer or manufacturer?

Hey jiggywitit-
Bought one two years ago too, had it replaced in December, same problem as yours but the retailer I brought mine to gave me a new replacement. Reeds in Walker was where it was purchased and returned, good gize there.
They really are a good unit, specially if you've got an FL8 next to it you can see the difference.
Good luck

What are the differences you can see with a side-by-side comparison with an FL8?

Have a newer unit, bought this past winter. Have had no troubles so far. Used twice at Redwing and on ice this past winter. Compared to a FL8 there is much more detail on the screen. Where the fl8 shows 1 wider line the colorpoint may show 2 or 3 lines indicating seperate fish. Which the vexilar cannot seperate. Vexilars are very good dependable units they just dont have the seperation of the colorpoint's. Friend of mine borrowed my colorpoint to go to LOW used 4 days on single charge & still had power left when he returned.

I bought mine last season after speaking with one of the reps from the company that licenses the electonics technology to Zercom. He explained how when the unit was launched the transducer had a design flaw that resulted in a virtual 100% failure rate - nearly all were returned. Since then the problem has been resolved, remember, it was the transducer and not the ColorPoint, and there haven't been any similar problems since.

I love the unit and had great success with it thoughout the winter. I think it raises the bar in flashers with added power and greater separation. Good luck!

Bought a color point for a Christmas present (for me-tee-hee)and really like the unit. Had it quit on me-just went blank-altho you could hear it running. So I sent it in (figured it was the ol' transducer problem); and they replaced the guts in it-took about 10 days for turnaround. Ice was gone when I got it back so will have to wait till next yr to see if it works..After having a color point I would not buy a velexir.

Write a letter to Zercom... see what they have to say
