I need the temperature of the water needed for eyes to start spawning in a reservoir and where exactly they will spawn. The res. is narrow, deep on the dam end (about 70') and gets shallow mid-way up (about 10-15') and stays that away until the river, which is slow moving and can be as deep as 6-8 feet. Thanks.

Temp. for walleye spawning is 42-45. walleye's
will spawn in the res. on rip-rap banks, rocky points & wind blown shallow stony reefs. I would
say that most walleye's will run up the river to spawn, looking for shallow current areas with rock or gravel bottom. Even if the fish have to travel many miles to get to spawning sites, this incoming river will host probably the most spawning fish. hope this helps. Bullet

Bullet is right on with his suggestions. What does complicate things in stocked impoundments is that the fry are often dumped into the dam end of these waters. That being the case, look for the warmest-cleanest-rockiest water on the dam side. Good Luck, No Fish

Thanks bullet and no fish. There are not many eye fisherman around these parts so i am on my own trying to figure out things. Fishing these Idaho reservoirs is way different than Lake St. Clair, MI(born and raised), which was relatively easy to fish.

Spawn water temps. can vary by region and season. The day (light) length seems to have something to do with it. Here in western Oklahoma and Texas, the walleye seem to always spawn in mid to late March. Our water temps. are @ 47-48 degrees at my favorite reservior, and the walleyes just started spawning. This is a rocky, deep (90'+) reservoir.
