Got a great deal last weekend, an X-85 with speed and temp for $418. I am mounting this up front off of my Minnkota powerdrive, now the question I have is how can I run the transducer cable to keep it neat and orderly, I can't cable it to the shaft as that runs through a collar and I don't really want 5' of cable dangling around the front of my boat. Thanks in advance for your suggestions folks.

Start at the tranducer and clamping the cable tightly to the motor and then a tie wrap at the base of the shaft, then run the cable up through the handle on end of the powersteer mechanism, and plan on using a tie wrap at top of shaft but on the bottom of the motor head BUT do not tighten yet. The key is to have enough slack in the cable that when you pull it out away from the middle of the shaft it will not reach the prop. You then need to create a loop in the cable at the motor head to allow the head to turn 360 without catching and twisting the cable and pulling it apart. This is about the best I can explain without hands on. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I went out to the garage to look, I will send you an e mail as this will take some explaining.

An easy and neat way to do it is to make a cable guide out of aluminum rod.
basically you are making a long U out of the rod with a flattened portion on either end that you can attach to the shaft of the motor.
Make the depth deeper than any part of the head that turns, and make the length of the U as long as the motor shaft - - about 3 inches. Use a hose clam to clamp the u formed out of the aluminum rod to the motor shaft just above the motor head, and another clamp to attach the u shaped rod - to the motor shaft just below the top of the trolling motor indicator head.
After the aluminum rod is in place - simply run the transducer cable up the motor shaft to the u shaped rod -- then tape the transducer cable -- the full length of the rod -- and at the top of the motor back to the shaft of the motor -- then loosely attach it to the coiled cable coming from the motor head.
Little cable laying around -- and you never have to worry about the cable getting in anything because the u bracket keeps the cable safely out of harms way.
Many pros have this on their rig. It works well for any kind of electric trolling motor -- hand control, cable control, or electric steered motor.
Take care
