There was a semi-V aluminum at the Denver Sport show last March. If I recall it was 17' plus, all welded. Appeared to be a real sturdy boat, good fit and finish, and they were saying at that time it would be out in the spring. I have yet to see any more of them, however, that one certainly looked appealing. It would seem it's intended to compete with fishing boats put out by Lund (Explorer)and Crestliner. This has been quite awhile ago, so don't hold me to this.

Yes Triton has a new line of deep-V all welded boats coming out this year. They are already making a line of all welded Jon boats, bass boats and other lower sidewall boats. I've been running their 2070CC center console 20 foot Jon boat on the Wolf River and it has been a great boat. The Waupaca County Sherriff's liked it so much they bought my first one and Triton made some livewell and rod holder changes for me that have worked out great on my second. The boat has done everything I need it to do including many trolling days on Lake Poygan this spring and a May trip to Little Bay de noc. You can check these out at www.tritonboats.com

As far as the new boats for 2004, I was with the Triton rep's for my area this last week at the WC get together and they confirmed to me the new Deep-V's coming out this year. Their first deep-v boat, the 17 footer mentioned above, was a nice, well built boat. Using the feed back from dealers, anglers and prostaff like myself, Triton took the time to make what I think is going to be a great line of fisherman's deep-V aluminum boats. If you need more infornmation feel free to contact me direct at joel@wolfrivercountry.com and I will see if I can get you a brochure, specs or any other information.

boat shopping

I have been boat shopping for a 17-ish foot wider aluminum fishing boat. I fish some smaller inland lakes as well as Lake Champlain, which isn't a "great lake" but is pretty big with some pretty rough water at times. I've been looking at Lund explorers, mr. pike or the like, Alumacraft navigators, plus a few other brands and am definitely buying used, likely 5+ years old. Unfortunately there are very few of this type of boat around me (northern new england) so I'm finding the pickins extremely slim...from the looks of things I may very well end up driving 18 hours out to Minnesota or Wisconsin to buy a boat. Anyway, I found a local guy who is selling a Triton DV Sport 17' boat with a merc 2-stroke 90. It's an 06 model year, purchased off a showroom floor new in 2008, asking price is 14k (about where the Lund boats I'm looking at are, but this is newer and a lot closer) and looks to be in extremely good shape. The general layout of the boat and the size is exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't want to buy a boat that I wont be happy with over the long haul. I've looked around online and had a very hard time finding info on this line of boats, and it looks like Triton no longer makes the deep-v boats at all. I stumbled onto this thread from several years ago and thought I might ask here. Anyone have any insight into these? Good boats? Good price?
thanks

Don't know much about the Triton Aluminum boats, but I did see a nice used one for sale the other day. I'm not in the market for a tin boat & it's a little smaller than what I'm looking for.

Anyways, here is the ad where I saw the boat...

Wonder how that Triton held up in the last 8 years?

To a point. Depending on what kind of waters you mainly fish. I would not want a welded hull if I mainly fished big water. A friend of mine had a welded hull, from a very reputable manufacturer, and mainly fished Lake Erie. On his third season, he noticed the boat taking on water. Not a bunch, but not normal, as it hadn't in the first two years of ownership. It went back to the factory, and they found eighteen cracks in the welds, in various places. He sold the boat within a week of getting it back.
In big water, the hull needs to flex.

I've owned a 2006 Triton DV176 aluminum welded hull deep V since 2008. It has been a great boat and gets used on Erie the majority of the time. It has a 90 hp Merc 2 stroke, 9.9 pro-kicker w/trollmaster and 55 lb Minnkota. I'll answer any questions you might have as best I can.

You've probably caught more 'eyes out of a certain Triton than you have that Lowe Sheepherdin' Machine.....

I'm pretty sure that the Triton was made for them by Lowe, Lowe was making Triton's mod-v's for them.

I have a 05 Triton DV186 with a 200 H.O. and a 15 H.O kicker and the only thing I have found about the boat that i dont like it how high the bow sits when off plane. Not a big problem, but can cause a little issue with a cross wind when trolling. As far as how the boat has held up, well, lets put it this way I dont know how many times people come up to the boat at the fish cleaning station and ask if its a new boat
and when I tell them its and 05 they cant believe it. Everything has held up well in the boat.

I'd be surprised. The DV176 that Rapsy owns has an all-around different construction style and much heavier duty than anything Lowe makes. But then again, maye he built it out of scraps in his garage and simply bought the Triton stickers on ebay...

the tritons were made at crestliner in the mid 2000's. they are basically fishhawks with a little different interior and decals. plus no wood, all composite floors and transom.

close but no cigar. the hulls were made by crestliner later after the first ones kept coming back cracked. they were the same hulls as the 1650 & 1750 sport anglers or superhawks (same hull) which were a little bit deeper with more deadrise then the fishhawk models.

Thanks guys. I wound up finding a relatively pristine 03 Lund Mr Pike 17 with a merc 125 for half the price. I figure that's a known entity and a proven winner--the engine checked out so I bought it on the spot. Ice can melt any time now!
