GPS how accurate?

I am planning on buying a hand held GPS soon. How accurate are they? 1/2 mile? 100 feet? And do the more expensive models dial you in closer to your target?

I do not feel that the more expensive units are any more accurate. They just have more bells and whistles. I can return to the same rock year after year with my 125.00 unit.

I've got a Garmin 12XL and average about 20 to 30 feet since SA was turned off.

What is the price on the Garmin 12XL?

I run my Garmin 48 at highway speeds and the lowest number I got was 10 feet with 13 to 25 being the norm.

The 12XL goes for about $195, but the GPS12 can be had for around $145. It's just missing a few bells and whistles you'll probably never use. Both real good units and easy to use.

I was trolling with two of my daughters on Saginaw Bay last weekend and they were getting a little bored. I let them dip their caps over the side to fill up with water and dump on their heads( it was hot and pretty calm) when my 6 yr old loses her cap in the water. I hit save waypoint on my 5 channel Eagle GPS and as we were pulling 6 lines on boards it took us awhile to circle and come back to the waypoint. I was surprised as I came back to the spot to find my hat(it was an old black Abu Garcia) with no trouble! Since they turned the SA off I'd say the accuracy is very good.

I had a Garmin, but did not like how it worked. I went out and bought an Eagle and it works very fine. Maybe I'm just not a tech guy, but I found the Eagle a little easier to use.

i have an eagle map guid pro it's a 12 channel unit.very accurate. comes with a cd with world map. pc hookup plus all the nav aid for the us and coastal waters saves 750 waypoints.plus 3 plot trails alittle pricey but well worth it. good fishing.
