How do you fish a rattle trap. Troll? Vertical jig? Rip?
I rip them but I don't use them much until the weather cools off some. I don't see why you couldn't troll them though???? Anyone?

We've trolled them for lake trout early in the year when the fish are in 10-15 feet of water. They catch fish. Try 'em, you might like 'um.

I fish Rattle Traps more than any other crank. I have about 40 in my crank box. I use a steady retrieve in the spring and fall and I rip it occationally during the summer. Although a steady fast retrieve is very effective on Wipers and Smallmouths during the summer. I use the 3/4 oz models at night with a steady slow retrieve. I have caught scores of walleys and smallmouths down at Pueblo Res. by just casting parallel to rocky shorelines and burning them back. Also try the 1/8 oz in the spring when shad have just hatched. It mimics a small shad fingerling perfectly. Try the new 1 oz size for trolling for Pike and Lakers. Toothy critters love them.
I've used them in Canada. Mostly trolling in the dark water lakes. Good for walleyes and northerns.

I have a question also. I have heard alot good reports about the new Frenzy lipless rattle baits and purchased a half dozen to go in my Trap tray. I have tried to use the Frenzys a little more than my beloved Traps to compare the results. So far it has been no contest, I still haven't caught anything on the Frenzys. The last time I fished up at Lonetree I couldn't get the walleyes to hit anything but crawlers. But I also threw a 1/2 oz Frenzy for about two hours hoping to pick up a Wiper or two. I didn't get a strike all morning. Then I put my favorite Firetiger 1/2 oz Trap on and caught two decent Largemouths in about 20 casts and lost what felt like a decent Wiper. Should I keep trying the Frenzys or stick with what I know best?

Neal, Don't give up on the frenzy's, The Blue ones are hot on bright days, I've had good luck on those with a steady retrieve. Never have tried much rippin'.

Rattle traps are great for trolling in the rocks. They tend to bounce over the rock rather than hide under it. Best lure going for the "river lakes" I fish here!
