Having problems with knot holding, use Palomer knot. Any suggestions on what knot will hold best, tired of loosing crankbaits. Thanks

Not to insult, but check your palomar knot. I've never had one break at the knot, and I fish mostly 6/2 Fireline on my spinning rod. I've straightened hooks, reeled in rocks, and occasionally broken the line--but I've never broken at the knot or had the knot slip.

Consider leaving a longer tag when trimming the knot.

Ditto w/ Gunga Din. You are either tying the knot wrong or trimming the tag too close.

Double Ditto. The Polomar has been by far the best knot for me.

Should I be using the Palomer Knot? I guess I am just lazy, because I have been using the same improved clinch Knot I have always used and haven't had one knot failure in two years of fishing Fireline.

The Polomar is easy to tie and works well on Fireline and all my other lines. Only one I now use.

According to the local Berkley rep, the Palomar is the "preferred knot" for Superlines. But, why argue with success, if your knots don't let you down, there is no need to change.

I agree with the palomar knot but instead of using one overhand knot I use two, sometimes a little tricky to tie,but very strong.

I use 2 overhand knots onthe palomer also. If still having problems give those fishing glues a try.

Palomer or improved cinch knots both work fine for me with 20/8 and 14/6 fireline. Maybe try wetting them?? Otherwise, if your always breaking off on something with a split ring, it could have a rough edge - (I've seen this with mono). I use the palomer for snaps, swivels, and hooks. Use improved clinch for reties when the snap is attached to a crankbait and for the last leg attached to 3-ways.

A few years ago I got a book on fishing knots for my birthday. After reading it and looking at all the knots I decided that the Polomar knot was the one I was going to use from then on. Its easy and quick to tie and, most importantly, it retains something like 99% of the original line strength. A few other knots were high but not quite as high as the Polomar. And some knots even dropped into the 80% range.

Is there a website that has a diagram of how to tie this knot?

if you use a trilene knot or improved clinch knot just give them three extra wraps, moisten line, tighten knot, pack it tight with your thumb nail, be sure to leave at least 3/8" tag end just incase it slides a bit and tightens more. this method has served me well. no breakage, slips, etc. never a problem jigging, rigging, bottom bouncing or cranking.

fireline frays and gets a little fuzzy near the end. try cutting it back a little and retying occasionally.

Hey Reye
How's it going?
Did ya have a good summer out at the lodge?
Regarding the knot - check out the WC mainpage and at or near the top there is a link to the "knot page" where you will find the Palomar knot. I think there are also diagrams included inside the packaging of the superlines.
Are ya looking forward to the fall bite?

Thanks for the info! As a matter of fact, I had a great summer! How about you? I am very much looking forward to fall fishing, but as far as I'm concerned it's been doing really good out there for the last couple of weeks, a lot of happy walleye fishermen out there. Pike fishermen aren't having such a good time though. Check you later.

Fishing knot site that has good visuals on knot tying.

I use a modified Tri-knot on supper braids that has not failed me yet. I make two pass's through the hook leaving a lot of line to work with. Leave the two loops from the eye large enough to wrap around 5 times the doubled side to the rod tip (inside the loops). Return the end through the bottom loop at hook wet and synch. You end up with double wraps and no cut points for the braid to cut itself, that is the main pain with supper braids it will cut itself!

The Palomer is a good choice also but I can do this one in the dark and it works well for me so far. I have never needed glue to hold a knot with this one.
