Recently purchased a Crestliner Phantom186. The boat came with all the toys including a "black box" to create positive ions around the boat while salmon fishing...so......yeah, I'm a little skepical.........what's your opinion. Thanks....

Yep. I've been hearing about this stuff. I submitted a recent posting on a similiar subject. The concept is being pushed by several authors and sports writers, but most noticably by Scotty DownRiggers. Go to their website and check out the "black box".

I am highly skeptical. I need to see some valid research and reliable data to convince me to spend my money on such things.

The latest buzz is the electrical signature that an aluminum boat leaves that has a very negative effect on fish.

Good luck and do not overamp those fish....

We supposedly have positive ion control on our Cannon riggers. For what it's worth, we catch no more fish now than we did prior to this.

No real personal experience, but fished salmon with a guide out of Victoria, BC last summer and he swore by it. He said he tweaked the (voltage/ amperage/ whatever?) differently for different salmon species, depending on what was running. Claimed to have run ion and non-ion side by side and caught many more fish on the ion downriggers. We seemed to be catching as many or more fish that other boats. Take it for what it's worth. He certainly wasn't selling the things and that's his livelihood.

My Cannon downriggers have "Positive Ion Control". They've got knobs so you can adjust it from high to low. I guess some days the fish want all the ions you can crank out. Other days they just want a little. Last time I got skunked was because I my downriggers didn't have enough ions. I need to upgrade to the 'riggers with "Tournament Strength Ion Control". One problem is that the fish are damaged internally when they try to swallow the cannonball. My buddy caught one that swalled his cannonball, so he married it. Problem is, it was a walleye. I think he visits this board. He goes by Shorty.

I probably should have ended this after the 2nd sentence.

ROTFLMAO!!
