Did someone just throw a dart at a map??

Why would someone pick Quad Cities when you could go to about a dozen other A-1 Walleye fisheries. Green Bay, Put in Bay, Bay de Noc, Oahe, Mille Lacs, Red Wing, Leech Lake, Fort Peck, Lake of the Woods, etc.... I have not seen too many articles praising the walleye fishing there. I guess it could be a sleeper, we'll all see next year.

Yep, it's the old throw the dart theory!
We are just lucky it landed in a location know for good fishing, great hospitality, loads of fun, centrally located, easy to get to and really lucky that it is a community that wants the anglers there. Plus they have already hosted two major fishing events in the past with rave reviews.
Ah, shucks, no matter what location was selected it would be the old dart theory!

It has nothing to do with a dart. It has to do with a community that can be sold on the idea of paying a pretty good fee to the USFA to bring it there. Last I heard the town had to pay the USFA $5000, that was a couple years ago. Might be more now.

?????

Whats the problem?

I believe all major circuits do that. PWT & MWC. The town kicks in some cash and in return the anglers spend 20x that amount on gas, food & lodging. The town also gets publicity as being the site of the tournament and if fishing is good more anglers will flock to the area in hopes of successful fishing. You cant make money without spending some first. I would gladly pay $20 to bring an event to town and then have the contestants spend $200 at my hotel. Think of it as a discount!

Oh, River King, tsk, tsk, tsk. It is amazing how negative you can be without the facts. The championship deal is done unless the location backs out. All is signed. WRONG AGAIN River King. Better try next time.

Just curious as to where you got yout "20 times as much" figure. Is this off the top of your head or can it be backed up with figures?

Lawrence,

Are the river circuits a go or not? Need to know so I can see about planning for them.

to qualify for the classic in Team Walleye you must fish the regular circuit in one region. We could you four best one day finishes and your one best two day tournament. The top 10 point holders are invited to fish. We also have a wild card qualification. I you fish all the tournaments in your region you can qualify as a wild card even though you did not make the top ten. It's that simple.

There is a times number that Chamber use to determine the financial impact on the community due to events such as tournaments. It is considerable and it is based on the number of people and the time at the location and where the people come from.
