I am going to be new to the tourny scene next year, and was wondering if any of you could give me some pointers on picking up a few sponsors. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't call on Monday's. In fact don't call at all. find the name of the promotions director and write him with your expierence and what you can do to help him sell product. Most of them don't care if you finished at the top of the USFA team anything. Can you talk to the public and can you sell product. Interesting to see how you make out. This is high dollar advise. Good Luck

Hey Learnin,
I agree with the 1st post. After all, if you can't sell yourself to them, how can they expect you to sell/promote their product?
The topic of sponsorship has been under debate every once in a while here. But basically, if your promotion of their line of goods does not help generate more sales for the sponsor, why should the sponsor use you?
A sponsored angler is nothing more than a living ad. They count on you to sell product by example. If you believe in the product and can tell others why you use the product and what is so good about it, without EVER bad mouthing another, you will sway others into purchasing.
That is the bottom line, nitty gritty of it all.
As for aquiring sponsors, first off I would suggest persuing the people who make what you use. Second, get to know the area rep or the Mfr. personally.
Let them know who you are. Help them out a little. Very rarely will Big Company X just hand you a check because you are thinking of fishing a tournament and you ask for help.
Good Luck.....R
