Anyone have this unit? How does it perform, and what size is the screen? Thank you for any replies. Bob
You may have seen the add for the Cabelas closeout of $279.
Bottom line -- it is a great unit.
I had a smaller handheld unit, and traded it in for one of these units. I use the accumap as the main navigating tool on the console of my boat. I didn't like the small screen of the handheld. Also, the small handheld had a rather "coarse" pixel (few) and made the display difficult to read.
The accusport has a 160x160 display and is very easy to read in all conditions. Also, the night lighting makes the entire screen glow, and is very readable at night.
This unit will accept all IMS and c-map cartridges. There is a switch in the menu to select the particular cartridge that you might be using. There are two cartridge slots, so you can use two different carridges. The slots will also accept memory cartridges in 1,2, or 4 megabyte sizes. With the memory cartridges, and the use of the cd rom and pc software and down load cable, you can make your own maps and down load them to the unit.
Lowrance makes both IMS mapping as well as street level software available. If you use the street level software, you will use quite a bit more memory (much more detail). With the street level software, you will be able to pick up and map the specific street that you live - in any street in the USA.
If you check around, you can find some good proces on close out IMS or c-map cartridges, and you can get some good prices on the 1,2 or 4 meg cartridges.
The unit uses a 12 channel rockwell GPS system that has very quick acquisition and as good as accuracy ans any gps availalble today.
The one downside -- is that the unit is a bit of a battery hog. Because of that, I seldom use the unit on its own batteries. I use the Ram mount system and have a Ram mount on two different spots in the boat. I have also added a DC power cable wired from the boat starting battery to each mounting point. When ever I am using the unit in the boat, I simply plug in the DC power.
I use the same system in my car and motor home. A Ram mount, and DC power supply -- works great.
I feel that this unit represents the best mapping GPS value on the market today.
If you want to use it for hunting -- and want to keep it in your coat pocket -- I don't think it is such a good unit. Too big, and too much battery consumption. However, for semi-portable (i.e. able to use external power - semi-permenant mount) use, it is outstanding.
I particulalry like the unit from the standpoint - that if I am running at high speed in rough speeds -- the screen is large enough, and viewable enough to be able to see the display in rough seas.
Take care

Thanks Rew for the reply sounds like what I want. Just called Cabela's and they are sold out. Any ideas who else might have them. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob,
I just sent you an E-Mail about the Eagle AccuMap Sport.

Basspro store in Auburn Hills Michigan has some left. I got mine with the IMS software for $299.00. Very nice unit with the background map and large screen.
