Is there a line counter reel out on the market that is the size of a small baitcaster? I thought that I had seen them used during a televised walleye tournament a couple of years ago. Thanks for the info.

Smallest one I have seen is Cabela's DepthMaster. The digital line counter is integrated into the top of the reel instead of an after thought or tumor on the side of the reel making this reel effectively smaller.
Some have had problems with them, but I have not.

The Shiimano Bantam 1500LC's are very small, and have a line counter protruding out of the left side plate. They can be palmed easily.
Had two of the digital line counters from cabela,s and had trouble reading them in bright sun. glare of len,s blocked the reading,s.

I buy a ton of stuff from Cabelas, thousands of dollars spent in my lifetime. I really like everything they sell
except their reels !!!!!! Every reel I have bought including line counters went back broken !!!!
I do not know who makes their reels but THEY ARE C.R.A.P. !!!
They need to find a new manufacturer.
GOOD LUCK

I have 2 of the Cabela's electronic line counters. I have replaced both of them once and one of them is broke again. The electronics are not holding up. I have some of Cabela's D-10 depthmaster reels. They are not as small as the electronics but they have held up, a lot less money, too.

You may have seen the line counters that were made by Mitchell, Riptides. They were made in 4 sizes. I have 4 and they hold up very well. They would be perfect if they had a clicker on them. Stick with the Diawa SG 27LC or the Shimano. Rumors are that Ambassadeur will be manufacturing a replace plate with a counter, but only for the 6000. I wish they would make it for the 7000. Good Luck on your search, the riptides are still around, but the price is twice what they were before. Doug

I bought a couple of new line-counter reels made by okuma this past spring and I really like them. The model is Magda Pro 20DX and they are lighter than the Diawa's. I use both and both are excellent reels. You can visit okuma's website at www.okumafishing.com for information.

i have 8 okuma. all line counters.4 20dx for walleye 4 30 dx for salmon.very good reels.i really like them plus the price is right.
Have two of Cabella's electronics. One has been replaced and are working okay. The darkening of the lcd in bright sunlight is true, but not a major problem. Have used them on salmon and have held up so far.
I understand that next year there will be several more to choose from.

I am still looking for the perfect "compact linecounter". I thought the Digital Depthmaster from Cabela's was the one, until I had to send four back for the same anti-reverse problem. The reels started backreeling freely once and a while. If they get this problem fixed, I feel that this reel is worth a look. (compact, clicker, decent counter accuracy)I have found that the SG27's have superior accuracy at longer line-outs, but not as compact or streamlined.
