Interested in picking up some new trolling gear, and was wondering if anyone has had experience with Okuma, and how they compare to the Daiwa line counters. Also, any recommendations on rods for cranks/boards/snap weights. Thanks in advance.
i use the clip on boards and a 8,6 stcrouix mh salmon steelhead with 10lb mono works great this rod also works good with deep lip divers for flat lining i use berkley salmon steelheat 8,6 m you really need mh to pull boards it puts alot of stress on rod fireline is great for flat lineing the sensativity cant be beat ive heard of the okumas but the riptides are avalible where im at and there fairly cheap compared to diawa there 50to65 the diawas ive seen run over a100 that moneys better spent on a good rod or spinning reel where you notice it pulling boards and flatlineing cranks doesnt really depend on a high end reel

I run several Okuma 30's. They are a nice reel for the price and I've had no trouble in 2 seasons with alot of use. I do like the Diawa 27's better though but they wouldn't fit into the budget then. Their drags are a bit smoother and the reset button on the Okumas is easilly bumped and reset when you don't want it reset. Either will do a good job for you.

Been using diawas for 5 years now and won't change. Had tooooo much good luck with them, both on big waters, like Erie, and little waters around where i live. Use them for walleye and salmon. If I was going to change it would be to the Cabela's digital reel and linear rod. By the way if you live around a Sheel's store, try out their collapsable "Pro Caster" rod for line counters, big boards, and in line boards.
