I'm not sure what the Minnesota law regarding "Bailment" might say but generally speaking the dealer would be responsible for the motor unless you signed something that relieved them of this responsibililty. I'm surprised that a reputable dealer like Halbergs would be so adverse. Was the theft reported to law enforcement by dealer? Good luck.

Halbergs, reputable? Low price for a new boat yes, but anything else buyer beware.

No they did not sign anything. I receivd a receipt with a number on it for when I pick it up. I live witha gal and her homeowners probably wouldn't cover it that way.I let the insurance run out in january because I had bought a bigger rig and was going to sell this one in end of March. In fact the reason it was in shop was to make sure for the guy it was sound engine, he had even given me 200 to hold it. Damm Hallberg!Genes his name, beware of this place my buddy got screwed by their mechanics 2 years ago while the boat was under warranty and then little later piston went cause damage had been done to piston while under warranty and they said it was just fine a little miss is normal on that motor. Yea we found out why now that piston has been redone that motor runs like a top. So beware of this bunch. good bye and thanks for

I assume your boat was insured; contact your agent and see what he says. Hopefully your insurance company will replace it (minus your deductable). Let your insurance company fight it out with the dealer.

This happened to me once.
Somebody cut our fence and stole several motors from boats. Mostly mine, but one was a customer's.
I was surprised to learn that since we had done nothing negligent, our insurance would only cover the customer's motor if he had no insurance of his own.
I guess it makes sense....but I was embarrassed.
Luckily the customer had insurance and no problem developed.........and he is still a very good customer.
My insurance coverage is at a different company now, however !

If you recieved a copy of the work order as proof that your motor was left there then their insurance should be responsible for the theft! I f I did't get a response from the dealer then I would contact the Attorney Generals Office and the Better Business Bureau!
