Has anyone ever ran into this problem?
I ordered new tires ( F-78 x 14st ). My new tires the same size, but different brand is 2" shorter. This doesn't make sense , but is true. Even a 205-75-14 in another brand is the same amount shorter. Does anyone know if I am in for any problems by going to this shorter tire?
Thanks , Drift'r

Any F-78 should be the same size as any other F-78, but a 205-75-14 is not an F-78. It's a whole different tire design.

I'd feel comfortable substituting 205-75-14 for the F-78's, but only if you replace both. Don't mix sizes on the same axle.

each tire manufacture makes the tires different.
load range, tire pressure all play avery important roll.Look on the web at,bridgestone/firestone
michelin, goodyear, pirelli, kellyspringfield, they will help you out.take 2 of the same size tires,by 2 different tire companies, and you will see the difference, visit a retailer that sells different brands.Remember ,over and under inflation, will damage a tire also.wal-mart and kmart sell boat trailer tires already mounted .
check with probass and cabelas catalog also.do not mix and match on the same axle, causes big, big, problems.Oh,one other thing hows your spare tire?

Recently purchased one new tire for my trailer; size 4.80X12. Figured I would use the new spare tire that cane with the trailer. After I read this post I checked the new tire against the spare for size and you guessed it, the new tire was almost 2 inches taller. Had to buy a second tire, but thanks for the info; it saved me problems down the road.

You have two options. 205/75D14 or 215/75D14.

F78-14ST 205/75D14/c 215/75D14/c

26.50 diam 26.14 diam 26.69 diam

I would go with the ST215/75D14 load range C, I would consider radials, they will run cooler and last longer. They do cost a little more than bias ply. Good Luck!
