I fish Lake Winnebago and anybody who does knows how it blows out there.I use a #28lbs. vinyl coated navy anchor with 2ft.of chain and it holds tight but it gets to be a bear pulling it up time after time.Is it worth spending the money on these lightweight Fluke anchors? They range from #4-#10lbs.Do they hold tight?

Have you thought about trying an anchor retriever? You can get a sliding buoy gizmo that automatically floats your anchor to the surface when you motor ahead, with your rope sliding through the slider. On the Columbia River we use anchors up to 50 pounds, so lifting them by hand is dangerous and way too much work...

Get the large water spike, 4 feet of chain, and 200 feet of nylon rope (so that it stretches) and you will hold tight in the worst blow. Then you will only be lifting about 15 lbs rather than 35 lbs - anchor plus chain.

Take care

p.s. Don't fortet the nylon rope -- too many folks use poly rope - slick, no stretch and it floats - tries to lift your anchor.

Ditto on the large water spike anchor. Have tried the heavy vinyl coated navy anchor and the water spike has alot better holding power and isn't so heavy. I highly recomend it. :-)

Try a richter anchor. They are new on the market and are well designed. Will solve your problems with any lake or river condition. They can be purchased on line at richteranchor.com, any Shane
