Need to spend several days in Chicago and curious if anyone would have any suggestions on Sporting Goods stores to check out carrying good line of walleye fishing equipment. Only store I am aware of is Bass Pro at Gurnee Mills Mall.

Dave if your staying in the suburbs of Chicago Ed Shirley&Sons have numerous stores.
The one west of the tollway on 159th Street in Markham #708-331-5711 they should be able to give you phone numbers to the other stores if the one in Markham is not in the area your staying.
Also in Chicago you could go to Henry's at 31st and canal # 312- 225-8538. Good Luck

I agree with Lundy in that Ed Shirley stores (5 locations-Markham, Countryside, Frankfort, Palatine and Morton Grove-gee, sounds like their commercial) are good to browse and that Henry's in the city by Sox Park is good. I don't know if Superior Bait and Tackle is still open, but they were OK. There is Peppers in Glendale Hgts-good selections, but prices a little on the high end. Midwest Sporting goods in Lyons and Downers Grove is fair.

As far as the chains go, there is Galyan's Sporting Goods in Downer's Grove and Schaumburg, they have a pretty good selection of shtuff. If you haven't been to one, Bass Pro Shop in Gurnee
(about 45-50 miles from downtown Chicago) is a must see. Also, there is a Gander Mountain in Schererville, Indiana and Wilmot
Wisconsin, about 60 miles out that are good visit.

There are also some nice fly flogger shops of note in the area, if interested. Also a couple of neat rod building places that are cool. Depending where you are staying and what time and transportation allows, don't forget to bring your pole.

And go to Bacino's or a Giordono's and get a Chicago style deep dish pizza! Have fun in the second city.
