I recently purchased a new boat, and livewell size was a big concern for me. I chose a Monark 176 Commander. After using it once I decided the drain system should be different.
There is a threaded fitting in the bottom of the well that a drain tube inserts. When the livewell is full the water spills over into the tube and this maintains the water level in the well. I have seen this design in several different boats.
The problem I have is draining the well completely. When You remove the tube, the threaded coupling on the bottom of the well sets up aproximately 1/2 inch preventing complete draining of the well. I wish the overflow was mounted on the side of the well, and the drain located flush with the bottom of the well with a simple drainplug like a bathtub. This would make a for a cleaner livewell over time.
Do other boats have better designs? Has anyone redesigned their livewell for this reason. I'm not a plumber but I think I could do it myself. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something by asking here first before I dive in.
Thanks for any input!

It's going to be hard to fix your current drain system, Because the coupling on the bottom is probably glued in. You might end up breaking or cracking the tank. I guess I would live with it like it is. That's my OP.

Your the first person I've heard with a Monark. I've got a 196 on order. Have you contacted Dealer or Monark to see if there are other options. Did you get yours with a optimax? I hearing some problems with the 200 and the 225. I was getting the 150.

Mine has the 150 Opti. I love it! I have 45 hours fishing since febuary and the boat and motor combo are absolutely awesome. I haven't heard much good about customer service with Monark so I haven't tried them yet.
Most people would wonder why you would buy a boat from a company that didn't have a good rep for customer service. However, when I compared every boat out there, feature for feature, Monark came out on top and I don't feel I could have bought a better boat for my needs.
I'm sure you will like yours. One tip: I put 2 6volt batteries in the battery storage and 2 more in the next bow storage ahead of the battery compartment. Wired in series for 24 volts with an onboard charger gives you endless power. And the 250 lbs of batteries really balances out the weight of the Optimax, making for a smooth and stable ride.
