Hi all
I'm a newbie to the board and a born again fisherman, I was wondering what lakes are a sure thing in June. Perferably within 300 miles of Chicago.
Also, how's the bite in late August? Any good lakes to hit that time of the year?
Thanks in advance for all you help, and may your lines always be tight.

Moose,
April to the end of July no other lake in the world is more productive than Lake Erie (Western-Central Basin). Depending on where you live in the Chicago area it is a 5 1/2 to 6 hr. ride. Turnpike most of the way. Good Fishing.

The good captian is giving you good advice on Lake Erie. Although if you want to do it with your own , bite the bullet, and go to Ontario. Choose a large interesting lake like Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake , Eagle Lake or Lac Suel and spend the rest of your life learning any of those waters. You will enrich your life and have the best in fishing experience. Good Luck, No Fish

Hard to argue with Erie any time of the year- especially since you're coming from Chicago. But last June, Mille Lacs Lake (MN) produced numbers of fish using traditional rigging techniques. I'll be spending most of June there.

Another suggestion would be Little Bay De Noc in Michigan for meeting your 300 mile radius. I would recommend early June, before the masses of alewifes get into the bay, and all them walleye get well fed and sassy on them.

Why not the Mississippi River? It can really be hot at times and better than a lake when fronts are going thru.. If you are new to rivers and want to learn contact Jimmy O's Guide service. He is out of Dubuque Ia. and is a straight shooter.. Can get ahold of him on the fishing reports page here on W.C.

You can do very well in your own backyard. Just across the Illinois-Wisconsin border is Lake Delavan. Terrific walleye lake, with good panfish and even some decent muskie. This is one you can hit evenings and weekends all season.
