I had posted this earlier and am hoping for some hits.....My friends and I are going to Georgian Bay on June 10th to fish for eyes, primarily. We will be in the Pointe Au Baril waters and I am looking for fishing locations, methodologies, baits, ect. from guys who have "done it" in the "Bay". This is our first crack at fishing the "Bay".

We have fished Canada for a number of years - French River area, Muskoka waters and the Trent Severn. We are hoping to increase our success rate by turning to the Bay.

My boat is "Great Lakes" rigged i.e. 18+ ft, main motor and kicker, elec. troll, downriggers, planner mast, GPS, VHF etc.

I do not have EMail as this is my company's PC. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I envy you your trip, altho I can't help you with info. My one and only fishing venture there was off Manitoulin Island, and we fished salmon. I want to go back for both walleyes and muskies.

Having fished this area a few times, the best suggestion I can give is to try the multitude of island points with jigs dressed with twister tails and crawlers. The last time I was there, live minnows were still legal. I know that in recent years, the use of live minnows in many of the Ontario waters has been banned. If they are still legal, then dressing jigs with minnows would be another option. Good luck. I wish I could join you, but we'll be yanking 'eyes out of Quebec waters in June.

CISCO, MRRUGS,

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT! I AM SURPRISED THAT I DIDN'T GET MANY HITS ON THIS. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THERE WERE QUITE A FEW "EYE HUNTERS" THAT HAVE FISHED IN GEORGIAN BAY, BUT I GUESS NOT AS MANY AS I THOUGHT.

THNAKS,

I was surprised, too. I watched your post cuz I was hoping to learn something. I'll get back there, just don't know how soon that might be. Next time I won't stay on giant Manitoulin Island, but on the north shore somewhere to target both walleyes and muskies. Good luck.

have fished this area in the past.
our best luck was always night trolling very very close to shore using rapala's

i hope you don't have an fiberglass boat. night fishing in this area can be very dangerous.

check out fox bay

good luck

NINE BEARS,

THANKS FOR THE INFO.! MY BOAT IS AN OLDER ALUMINUM SYLVAN. WHEN YOU SAY "CLOSE" TO SHORE - HOW CLOSE IS CLOSE? ARE YOU POWER TROLLING OR ELECTRIC, USING PLANERS, FLAT LINING? HOW FAR ASTERN SHOULD I SET OUT THE CRANKS? ARE YOU REFERRING TO RAPALA FLOATERS, SHAD RAPs, JOINTED etc.

I SURELY HOPE YOU DON'T MIND THE QUESTIONS. I DON'T WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR RESPONSE. AS YOU CAN SEE I AM DESPARATE FOR THE TACTICS. I REALLY AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS TRIP AND INCREASING OUR SUCCESS OVER THE OTHERS WATERS AFOREMENTIONED.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Ranger:

We've had good luck there trollimg w/ worm harnesses in 5-20 ft of water off of the numerous shoals/points that are everywhere in that area. Can't giver you any info on Pointe Au Baril since I don't fish that area, but we've also had luck w/ trolling w/ floating rapalas/thundersticks(5-7in)in evening and at night. These lures closely mimic the alewives that the walleye feed on at night. I definitely wouldn't fish at night unless you're really familiar w/ the area, though. Tons of shoals and easy as **** to get lost! good luck

BRW,

THANK YOU. GOOD INFO. WE PULL BAITS AS DOES EVERYBODY BUT OUR "FAVORITE" ARE STILL WORM HARNESSES THAT WE TIE. I APPRECIATE THE INFO. AS I SAID ABOVE, I WILL BE POSTING THE OUTCOME OF THIS TRIP FOR ANY THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTED.

THANK YOU,
