It saddens me how out of touch with the environment us sportsmen/women are. You'd think that for the amount we enjoy and are involved with nature, we'd know somthing about it, and want to conserve it.

At the rate we are going, there will be nothing left of this planet for our kids. This isn't some abstract concept either, most of us don't realize how close we are to extinction.

What I'm trying to say is, changes will have to be made, and if we all get a little more informed on the topic, the changes might be a little less painfull.

It is a fact that at the rate of natural resource consumption we are now at the world won't go on much past 2050. Sure, some of us won't be around then, but there will be a lot of us who will be.

In light of the election, if you are looking for a candidate that will keep things the way they are, you will be casting a vote to end the natural world.

What it comes down to is, do any of us really care?

Interesting that you have concerns. IF your primary concern is using up all the oil, don't fret, ain't gonna happen. The pollution issues that come from fossils fuels and wastes that pollute our water resource should be and I believe are, concerns of most who use these resources, including fisher persons, hunters, bird watchers, hikers and the rest. Very rarely, am I fishing or hunting with someone when the beauty and majesty of it all does not enter the conversation. And in most cases sports persons put their money and well as their time where their mouth is. I think you make a valid point and it bears consideration.
If I am missing your point, please fill me in.

You say that the oil won't run out? How do you figure?

The known reserves alone will run us for 40-50 more years. Russia will be coming on line in about two years with their latest discovery. And that covers only what is now known.
The technologies for getting oil are becoming more efficient meaning more oil from a given deposit than ever before.
Even though it may be 10 or 20 years off, fuel cell, or like technologies, will relieve the pressure on fossil fuels. Environmental needs and pressures will reduce utilization through technologies in combustions engines and other emmission sources.
Keep the faith,

As it happens, I don't care who you vote for, I'm canadian, but that shouldn't matter.

I'm not excluding myself from the group, but I am open minded. If some more environmentally friendly substitute comes along for whatever, I will always make an effort to use it.

BTW, I do have a compact car, as I don't trailer my boat anywhere.
