Kinzua is the resivoir created by the Alleganny River. The very north end is crossed by the former route 17, now I86 between Salamanca and Jamestown in western NY. It extends down into Pa and the tailrace is about 9 miles north of Warren Pa. To fish it completly you would need Pa, NY, and Seneca Nations licenses. This fish was taken in 40' of water on a jig near High Banks campground. For me it is a frustrating piece of water to fish. You can loose 5 years worth of tackle in a days fishing with all the rock and timber.:-( It was about 5 years ago this fish was caught.
If I were in persuit of this walleyes clone I would be looking at the northeast corner of Lake Ontario/St Lawrence River.:-)
Aren't we all in pursuit of this walleye's clone????? On a jig, eh? And I can't jig decently :-( So many big fish taken jigging, guess I'd better work on it.... I try but no bites... Gets old fast....

I'm a long way from being a great jig fisherman but what dramatically improved the game for me was a switch to fireline and a good quality medium fast graphite rod.
Kind of gets frustrating... friend and I jig together and he's hauling in fish... and don't even get a bite.... rats!!!!!!

try smaller jigs and 6lb test and pay attention the the line and tip of the rod
GOOD LUCK
Have you tried a spray scent? I saw your picture from the Erie get together and though you have a nice face that doesn't need cosmetics, you are also a lady and probably use them. My wife does also and also unecessary. We've found that utilizing a fish scent spray evens the odds. Hope you don't think this was chauvinistic as it wasn't meant to be <<< and this isn't intended to be politically correct<<<< oh nuts, now I'm confused!

I never wear makeup, use perfume, or hair spray when fishing... hence, the bad hair when I've been out on the boat... wind blown... But I do use a scented shower gel... you might have a point there... I'll try it, thanks. I think the problem is mostly lack of faith on my part and the fact that I need to spend more
time practicing... trouble is while I'm trying I'm thinking about all the fish I could be catching if I tied something else on :-)
and that usually does me in.

Ness,
Use jigs a little bit every time you go. Try light, very light, heavy, very heavy etc. Move them very slow, very fast, etc.... Very small (2 inches or so) lift, up to a foot or more. Be sure to try hair jigs...
Then try some blade baits - many days (especially in spring) they will out fish the jigs. Just keep trying. Once you catch a few you'll get the feel and you'll love both methods. I also think Fireline helps (you can feel a fish burp or !!!!!!)
Bob
Well, the only reason I suggested the cosmetics is that your said your partner was a man and he outfished you on jigs. That leads to 1.) fishing slowly where scent becomes more important than trolling which creates reactions. 2.) the obvious question of what is different; another possiblity is, do you smoke and he does not? 3.) Another possibility could be serin (the chemical that some people give off more than others; however that is usually true of middle aged white males, not ladies, but there are individual differences. Finally, maybe it is just confidence and the guys who are giving you advice on lighter line, etc. are right. In that case it is just time and touch and you will gain expertise and confidence.
Good luck,
ufda
Let's see, he smokes, I don't... so we can kick that one out :-)
When we jig together, we use a garlic scented plastic bait (for
bass) that really super stinks so I'm thinking it's not the scent thing??? Bob, you're probably right, I need to practice more. And I think I will try the Fireline because I don't think I'm getting the feel of things??? Also, I've got a medium St. Croix
rod that I haven't been using for jigging but I think that I'll give it a try because the rod is so sensitive. That might help...
