View Full Version : Livewells
Have a new Pro-V and still haven't figured out exactly how the livewwells work . Thought just the back one was supposed to fill going down the lake but today had the front one fill to. Anybody know? Thanks
My guess would be that it was rough and the waves were hitting high enough on the hull to push water in through the overflow. If you want to use that well for dry storage better put a plug in the overflow. I may be out in left field, but that's my 1st thought. Good luck.

I don't think either one should unless the sw is on. Mine don't and I have a 99 Smoker. Lund may be designed differently.
step 1 put the plug in the drain at bottom of live well if you dont pressure will push water up drain. then you should have 3 side switch options fill empty rec and 2 top toggle options manual auto at the end of day pull both livewell plugs and turn side switch to empty that will drain all water after its drained put plugs back in for next time ,if you need to fill:(PLUGS MUST BE IN UNLESS DRAINing WITH BOAT OUT OF WATER) step1 TURN ACC POWER SWITCH ON all pumps are wired to that switch turn top switch to manual and side switch to FILL and wells will fill then turn to auto and they will run off a timer turning on and off every 5 min or so, time to head home turn side switch to rec and pumps will recirculate water in well on the drive home keep tpo switch on auto and POWER SWITCH ON and fish stay lively and fresh -this is how my 98 1775 pro v works the only trouble i have is front well will air lock you can put boat in rev turn pump on and it will force air out and water in or they sell an attatchment for the back of the boat that picks up water as you troll forward
CJ, If your'e asking about a way to stop any water from entering the livewells because you'd like them to stay dry until needed, there isn't one with the new freshwater pickup system on the PRO-V's. All you can do is set your 3-way valve to the "Empty" position and also have the plug removed from the bottom.
did they change them since 98 pro-v if not with the bottom plug out and side on empty the wells will back fill up the drain lines
tnt, If you're able to put the plug in the bottom and turn the 3-way valve to "Recirculate" (ie "Closed") and your livewell stays completely dry, then "yes" they have changed something, that being the freshwater pickup system. I'm not sure what year they started it (maybe 1999, because mine has it). When you put the the plug in a newer PRO-V and turn the valve to "Recirculate" you still get water in the livewell due to the freshwater pickup (a small cup shaped intake that sucks in freshwater as you're running down the lake, the faster you go, the more it fills) It gives your catch freshwater while you're on plane and your pump intakes are out of the water. The bottom line is there's no way to prevent water from coming into your livewell, so the best way I've found to empty them the fastest is to leave the plug out and the 3-way valve on "Empty"

The fresh water pickup on both livewells fills via a separate spray valve at the top side of the livewell. This can be turned completely off by screwing it closed. I believe this is the same valve used inside the baitwells. You can also completely disable the fresh water pickup to either livewell by pulling the access panel to the pumps and replacing the "tee" connector from the in-hull pickup with an "L" connector that just goes to one livewell.
Brian has it right. The new Pro-V's have a fresh water pick-up. This is great when running waves and water is sloshing out of the overfill holes - keeps the wells topped off. Look in your live well. On my 1800 Pro V SE front well there is a spray head on either side of the well. I believe that the left spray head is for fresh water pick-up. If you don't want the well to fill you will have to: 1) Close nozzle on fresh water pick-up spray nozzle, 2) put plug in bottom drain in the well, 3) Turn the selector to "Recirculate". I'm not saying that the well will stay completely dry because of the possibility of water entering through the overfill holes, but it will not fill up. On my rear well both spray heads are on the left side. E-mail me if you have any questions.
