I have a 1999 Sylvan 18' Viper with 115hp Johnson outboard and plan to trade for 175 hp Merc. Has anyone had any experience with the newer Sylvan fiberglass boats? I had problems with 17' Aluminum last year and hope the fiberglass experience will be better. Any observations, suggestions or comments will be appreciated. Thanks. DLJ-CO.

I have two neighbors with the 17' model. One of them used to guide (for 15 or 20 years). Both consider the boat to be an excellent family/ fishing boat. It's no surf-busting Grady-White, but then it doesn't cost so much either. From what I note at the boat ramps, the glass Sylvan/Smoker seems to be a very popular boat for being a fairly recent model.
