What's the difference in using Spiderwire instead of Fireline? I mean which is best and why. rawburt

I would say that neither is better or worse. Both are great no stretch superlines. To me, fireline is a little more stiff and I think smaller diameter, but also more resistant to nicks and other deterioration. I love it on my spinning reels, but won't spool my baitcasters with it(exception deep crankbait trolling rig), as it is too fine and cuts on itself in the spool. Spiderwire is (to me)very much like power pro, cabela's ripcord and the like. Definately a personal preference type of issue, and each has uses for specific applications. Give 'em both a try.

What are you using them for? I've only used them for pulling dipsey divers. I prefer the Fireline for that purpose. It is easire to tie and I haven't had any trouble with line snags on the reel as I did with spiderwire. For any other use maybe someone else could help you out.

The original Spiderwire is a braid. It is best suited for a bait caster since it may tend to flatten out a little. Spiderwire does make a fused line and I think it is called Fusion.

Fireline is a fusion. The fibers are not braided but rather pressed or heated. This forms an outer coating which is smooth and round. Fireline works great on spinning reels and/or baitcasting reels.

All superlines have micro dynema which is a thin strong fiber. This fiber is braided or fused together to form lines which are stronger and thinner then mono. They also have the benefit of transmitting vibrations to your rod extremely well.

There are mainly two benefits to the superlines.
1)Increased sensitivity. This speaks for itself. You can feel everything on the bottom and the slightest nibble. Down side is the fish will also feel you. The lines do not strech as compared to mono.
2)Thinner diameter w/ greater strength. When trolling the dive curve of lures is dependant on the resistance of the line. Smaller diameter means less resistance therefore more depth.

When you use superlines its important to loosen your drag and use a rod with a softer tip.
