Looking to buy a Stainless prop. I have a 17' Smokercraft Deep V with a 100 hp engine. Hull weight is around 1100lbs and I have 9.9 4-stroke kicker also. 30 Gallon gas tank. Two live wells and like everyone else a ton of gear.
I am looking for top end speed. How do I go about calculating what pitch I need for the best top end speed?
What if any further informa tion do I need to determine this.

Thank you in advance
Scott

this should get you close:

use a slip factor of around 12-15% (0.12 or 0.15), the calculation really isn't that sensitive to minor changes in slip.

Scott - Regardles of what pitch you find through calculations, make sure to test drive several props before you buy. Any dealer worth his salt will give you a chance to run a few different props on your rig to get the best performance.
good luck

Good luck with prop testing......
It a real pain in the "rear".

I have a similar boat.
1750 Crestliner with a 90 HP Honda.
Tried the following:
PowerTech RED 13 1/4 x 17 & 19 pitch props
Honda 13x 18 pitch (45 mph @ 5300 rpm)
Aluminum BlackMax with 13 1/4 x 17 pitch
(this is what I started with)
Turbo 13 1/4 x 17 pitch

I ended up moving the motor up all the way to the top hole....
The centerline of the prop shaft was 9.5 inches below the bottom pad on the back of the boat.
I ended up with the shaft 6 3/4 inches below the bottom of the boat.

Best speed(almost) and the best loaded too.....
5600 rpm @ 43/44 mph with 600 lbs of people
The 18 pitch Honda was real nice but bogged out of the hole with it loaded 7 ran at 5200/5300 rpm.
(My boat runs best at peak HP. Thats about 5700 rpm......this depends on each motor)
Find out you motors peak HP rpm and prop to get that RPM........

I hear the Yamaha props are the best, if you can try any.
I have also heard that Stilleto's are great too.
(that is the older technology version of my Turbo prop)

I had a tough time getting anyone to let me try props. Everyone has aluminum, but no stainless unless you buy it...

A lot of people say to try a 21 pitch......No way for my boat and motor combo.

Good Luck.......

Oops;
I fat fingered and erased the "best option"

I ended up with the 13 1/4 x 17 Turbo stainless....
