I could use a little help naming my new hunting/fishing partner, shes a eight week old yellow labrador retriever. Her fathers name is Cosmo and the mothers name is Foxy. Any suggestions?
Thanks Will

Screw with her brain and name her "Cat". This will also get some funny looks from your friends..;-)
Seriously though, the name will come to you eventually. Just make sure it is no more than two syllables. After two syllables all they hear is blah blah blah...lol

For a female Yellow lab "Sandy" seems fitting! Nice pooch by the way!

Fomo or Coxy...eheheh.
We did this a year and 1/2 ago and decided that a hunting dog should be named Hunter. That was my 7 year old daughter's idea so it was done. I wanted always wanted a dog named Bo, easy to call in the fields, but I was over ruled.

Number one rule is don't name your dog anything that you don't want to be yelling in the middle of the street at 3 in the morning in you pajamas. There are dog sites that have lists 200 names long or more.

Just make sure the name does not sound even similar to any commands that you will use to train the dog.
Such as: Mo (No!)
My dogs name is Jack so I had to come up with another training word for BACK.
Depending on how extensive your training will be, make a list of the command words you will use then compare them to all the name ideas you come up with. Remember to think how a dog will interpret the sound of the word.
Good luck
By the way, my favorite dog name is ASKER.
"What's your dogs name?"
"Asker"
You can have some fun with that one.

With the parents' names, you could contract into a "Cofoo."
My one and only golden Lab was named Taffy. Perhaps not the most imaginative or creative name, but she was sweet as can be. I'd like another just like her.
Enjoy your pet -- a house is not a home without a dog.

If you are going for screwing with her, how about naming her "Stay". As in Come, Stay!
Sorry, but I cannot remember where I heard that. Someone else deserves the credit.
I had friends that gave their lab a first and middle name that was easy to remember and they figured they were going to be saying it all the time anyway, "Hey You - Dammit!" :-)

I have a five month old yellow lab and decided to name him "JD"for "just a dog." He seems to like it well and my friends get a kick out of the way I came by the name.I'm sure you will come up with something fitting.Good luck.
My first hunting dog was "Annie" as in "Annie Get your Gun"

I let my kids choose a list of names for my springer. They came up with 'Buster' for him. Kids have a tendancy to be much more creative than we adults. As in a prior post, just make sure the name is not confusing for the dog with field commands and that the sound of the name can carry over distance (not too many syllables and has some 'hard' consanants like 'k's and 't's for sharpness).

Cisco,
I too had a Taffy when I was growing up. I came home from 1st grade to find a golden ret. pup on the back step. Still the best birthday present I ever got! We grew up, hunted and fished together. I always had some one to talk to during those difficult times as a teenager.
She was the best friend that I ever had. Sure I've had better hunting dogs, but not quite Taffy. I have a big black lab now, who is about as close as you can get. He is my two sons "taffy".
They will feel the same about Duke as I do about Taffy.
You're right about a house not being a home without a dog, and thanks for bringing up the name, it brings back the good memories.
have a nice Christmas!

If the dog is handsome and a schmoozer and bellies up to the bar you can call him Dubya for my middle initial

....I have a yellow lab, now 2, and had the same problem. I finally settled on Loomis, since he now loves to fish as much as I do, and, the name says it all - quality all the way. Don't have too many like names in the field either....

Congrats on the greatest waterfowl dog and hunting buddy known to man. They never nag about how long you want to hunt or fish! We just got our second chocolate 2 years ago - one year later we had to put our first lab of 14 years to sleep. Saddest day I can remember. Anyway, enjoy her while you can. The only problem with a dog is that they don't live long enough. We almost named our dog Dakota - seemed kinda cool - go for it. We have friends who had a yellow lab named Tanner - also appropriate. Good luck!
Had a lab mix years ago that I gave away... the guy asked me what his name was ..... I sed "Guess" he sed I don't no, I sed "no Guess" he sed 'really I don't know' I sed ...... you get the picture. Look it straight in the eyes and a name will come.
Good luck

Lady Tuffy.
How about Vixen (female fox), Juno (the queen of the goddesses in
Roman myths), or Ginger (named for the yellow ginger flower).
I suggest if you're still stumped that you go out and buy a name
your baby book. Works for me :-)

Well,
If your dog is going to be anything like my Yellow Lab, an appropriate name would be Stupid. Only Lab I know that when you took her out hunting and the ducks would come in. She started barking at the ducks. Not a very smart Dog.
Not very good for Pheasants or Quail either, awsome rabbit dog though.
Good Luck!

We have an 8 month old yellow named mollie best friend my son ever had. Our suggestion would be Willow because they grow so fast. Good Luck!
We have a very light colored Golden Retriever and named her "Quila" which is short for Tequila. Her coat is about that color and I have never heard anyone else use that name.

Kitty is the nickname of my dog. Her real name is Whitney. She acts more human than dog.
I like "barker" for a dogs name. I have had two yellows one was Lady and the other was Daisy, I didn't pick either name.

My buddy's first black lab was named "Sheena". I always thought that had a nice ring to it. Enjoy the beautiful dog.
Named my chocolate female lab Sheeba, for the Queen of Sheeba.
Other dogs I've owned are Rusty and Spuds. Good Luck with your
new friend.

Dont mean to be a smart#ss but isnt this gonna confuse your wife and your dog? LOL
Honey is my horse's name. The guy that owned her when she was a
foal named her that because she's sweet natured. But it can be strange when I call her in from the pasture... Never know who'll show up first... The horse or the husband.... Good luck with your pup.
