Folks

I am thinking about buying a Pinpoint trolling moter,My question is. If I decide to troll in 90ft of water and set the depth and then it comes up on 40ft will it turn real quick and go the other way ? How does this work ?

Thanks

A detailed explanation of how it works is hard to put down in a paragraph or two here. If you want, e-mail me with your phone number and I'll be happy to give you a call with all the details you could possibly need.

If your on a 90 foot flat its not going to follow anything. It works by following the slope. Set the boat sideways to the slope and it will keep you at that depth. As long as there is'nt real big waves it will stay on with no problem. If your on a resevoir there used to be a creek or river that runs through it put it on creek track and it will follow it. On shore track it follows the edge of the shore. If weeds are high it will get fooled sometimes. Hope this helps. Craig

DHD,
If you're tracking 90'of water, it will stay in 90' of water. When it's tracking and see's the water getting shallower, say 87', it turns toward deeper water to keep you in the target 90' of water. It does need a break to track, so you will have to put in in manual if you are just aimlessly cruising a flat basin or flat, but if you want to track the edge of the basin or flat, it will track that.
If you are typically fishing deep water, I would recommend the 2000 series over the 3000 series. You probably won't be able to utilize the extra features on the 3000 series.

To follow up on Craig's drifting scenario, if you use a drift bag to pull your boat perpendicular to the break, it will follow that edge. The motor will try to pull the boat parallel to the break otherwise.

Grampa,

I know you use PinPoint a lot, but you're ignoring one of the top features of the 3xxx-series motors.

Using the 7520 screen and the 3700 trolling (oops, sorry, "positioning") motor, the display of multiple (or aggregate) transducers is a subtle but powerful tool, far more informative than just a single "look down" transducer.
