View Full Version : Jiffy Freeze Up

This year my 4 year old Jiffy (3hp) has developed the nasty habit of apparently freezing. Works great in garage, once on ice (or if not run in warm area before leaving) the engine will start normally but the shaft will not turn. RPM's are not full either but it does not stall.

Beyond this, there is a dark, smelly smoke.

My theory is that there is a leaky seal or gasket which has let water into the gear housing, it freezes, and the smoke and smell are the clutch going south. In fact, today when clearing a hole it was in a binding situation and instead of kicking back it just stopped, RPM's remained about the same for that instant before it was realigned properly and began eating ice.

Is this common? Any ideas? Otherwise love it.

Thanks much for any help.

Your high speed mix is off if it is not opening up to full throtle.

If the RPM's don't get high enough the centrifical clutch will not ingage so the auger will not spin. It may idle but not open up? May also be pluged jet's?
