So! DId anyone get one of these units for Christmas. Lucky you if you did. :7
Anyways, I got my Cabelas catalog yesterday and looked at the item in there. I could not see if the GPS module from my Global Map 2000 would work on these new units. Does anyone know if it is compatible or do they require all new components. Thanks in advance
Lance

I am pretty sure you need a new receiver. Mine from an LMS 350 A won't work with this.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-00 AT 07:10PM (CST)[p]The LGC-12S receiver should work with the LMS-350A, GM 2000, GM 3000, and the LCX-15mt. I haven't gotten my 15mt yet, so I haven't actually tried this -- you might want to call Lowrance and check just to be on the safe side.

Also, All I see for Transducers are transom mount. Can you get a thru hull transducer for this unit?

Yes you can get through hull T- ducers. I called Reed's and they told me I would need a different Gps receiver. Mine from LMS 350 won't work

Just asking

Which is the best unit, The 3000 or the 15 or 16. Does anyone know.

I have the new GPS Receiver for my Global Map 2000. I believe that should work with the new unit. But I will need the mapping package with the software equipment. I will call Lowrance and find out more.

It could be that the LMS-350 and LMS-350A use different GPS modules. I think they might. I've only used the LMS-350A, so I don't know for sure, but in my experience those guys at Reed's know what they're talking about.

I think what you need is an 8 Mb. MMC card, an MMC reader for your PC, and a "Map Create" CD. Depending on how much this stuff costs seperately, you might be better off selling your existing GPS module and buying the new kit with everyting included.

As far as I can tell the GM3000 is basically a LCX-15mt sans sonar. I would personally stay away from the 15ct due to the lower resolution screen, and the 16c1 is out of my budget at about $2k.

No one will really knows how good any of these units are until the end of next year.
