Are the launches open and are the fish biting?

launched sunday at starve rock fished from the railroad bridge to rt. 39 bridge in 16 to 24 ft. we caughts lots of saugers & a few walleye. we limited out in a few hours we trolled 3ways with 3/4oz.jig w/nightcrawler for dropper & floating jig w/fatheads for leader. good luck

The Spring Valley ramp is closed. The rest are open.

Lundy - remember the bad years? Well they are just around the corner if everyone continues to
keep these fish when they are so vulnerable this time of year. Above all release the girls! - everything over 18 inches should go back.

You are right Cranks, and the IL River gets a lot of pressure these days. I see it continually written about for it's sauger population in fishing magazines more often. With the increased attention comes more people. Can't afford to keep many. It's still fragile. Jeff

yes i do remeber the bad years but for the few times a year 3 tops that i fish the illinois i would'nt have any problem with keeping fish for the table. we fish the illinois river to keep in shape so to speak we dont care for the taste the fish out of that river

Lundy -

It is a fun year round fishery with all types of
patterns throughout the year. It's just that the fish are so vulnerable right now - this time of
year - we hate to see guys load up the livewell
with this Spring's brood stock only to mention
later that they taste like diesel fuel. Sure, keep the little males for the table and take a lot of photos of the big ones before you release them!!
