I finally had a chance to fish for the first time since New Years Day. It started out to be one of those days where you wonder if you should have even gone out. I left the resort a little after 2 and immediately got stuck in some deep snow near Garth Point! Thankfully I remembered to bring a
shovel. I finally got fishing around 3 and at 3:30 had my first "eye". With nice high pressure, this was a good sign. I ended up catching 6 nice walleyes including a 27 incher that I released. Was back at the Resort at 5:45. Not a single fish on live bait today, every fish came on a #7 chartreuse jigging rapala in 8 feet of water. I checked my tip-up twice thinking that the minnow might be dead, but it was fine. This just
proves how effective jigging can be. When the fish are active, use an aggressive jigging approach.
Drilling many holes in the area you want to fish works best. Jig a few minutes in a hole, then move on to the next! This was what we call "fun fishing" today, checking out one of our better spots that we haven't fished yet. The next several days we will be busy with many ice-fisherman...I hope they have the same good luck I had today! Stable weather is the key, and it looks like the weekend is going to be mild with highs in the 30's forecast. Good Luck Anglers From Sall-Mar! Look for recent photos coming soon!!!!
