Eelpout Festival is February 11 - 13. Most hotels/motels are already filled. We found a resort with openings though.

We are staying at Anderson's Cove. It's about 8 miles north of Walker. I just made reservations about 3-4weeks ago. We've got a 4 bedroom cabin on Leech Lake, fireplace, 6 person hot tub, etc. $30.00 night/per person. Very reasonable. I found them on the Internet by searching under resorts, maybe we just got lucky. Good luck!

Remember guys walleyes are considered trash fish for those 3 days, so throw them back.

In case your interested ling can be caught eleswhere thru the ice. Two of us got 28 in broad daylight yesterday on Yellowtail Res. 5 of them went 6-8lbs. The rest were 3-5lbs. All of this and we were the only ones on the lake.

Where were you fishing Larry? I have a cabin on Big Boy Lake.

I thought that I might get somones attention. I was fishing in Wyoming. We have a lot of ling out here in different lakes. They are all a lot of ice fishermen fish for. I generally use tip ups and live minnows. I did catch several on a jig and a dead minnow tho.

I used to go every year when I was younger. It is a **** of a good time if you aren't real serious. In fact, I never did actually fish in the seven festivals i attended. People build amazing structures on the lake and set up elaborate tents and shelters. Most go to drink, but some do catch pout. The Eelpout is a multi-purpose fish that can be used as a shot glass if frozen properly. Just find a frozen Pout, put your lips to the Pout's lips and have a friend pour tequila down it's gills! Warms you right up! You probably think I am full of b.s. but a lot of crazy s**t goes on at the International Eelpout Festival. Have Fun!

I also have been going for several years. Every year, our party gets bigger and bigger. Last year we were the "Pout Pirates" This year, our theme is "Pout Stock" (as in Woodstock). Alot of interesting things happen at Pout Fest, but have never heard of the shot through the gills. Ugh! Maybe I can get one of the men to do it on a dare. Wish us luck!
