View Full Version : Question on RCL Show

During the show, they filmed Scott Glorvigen putting his 3rd and final fish into the livewell. A three fish limit was not only the tournament limit for day 4, but the WI DNR limit on those waters as well.
My question is this, after putting the third fish in his livewell, they filmed more discussion with Scott about his day of fishing WHILE HE CONTINED TO FISH! Did anyone else notice this? I think all the tournaments I've fished say when your last fish goes in the box, you're done! Wasn't Scott not only breaking the tournament rules, but WI law as well? Oh, please don't tell me he was just fishing for bass to pass the time.

I did notice this also. But if you listened to some of the conversation I believe it was taped before he cought that 3rd fish. The power of editing I guess is the best way to describe it. They should have used a little better judgement on what piece to put in that section.
I know Scott and Marty very well and niether of them would even think about breaking the rules or doing anything un-ethical.
He started fshing Northerns!
What else was there to do?
Would you want to pull off the honey hole and let somebody else in there that might have a shot to beat you?
If you stay there, taking up space, you still have the "spot" as a defensive move.

Finn:
That's exactly what I thought he was doing. However, if the tournament rules say you stop fishing when you drop the last fish in the box, then you should STOP FISHING. No one owns a particular spot. When you're done, you're done and you should leave, go back to the dock and weigh-in your fish. Squatting on a spot just to prevent someone else from fishing it is very unsportsmanlike. It also increases the chance that the fish will die due to a longer time in the livewell.
Money makes people do unethical things.
If you listened he was fishing for peace of mind. It was -after- he put the last fish in the box.
Now, in waters such as the Fox River there are alot of fish, not just walleye.
With a cameraman over his shoulder, and a television crew on a boat watching him he couldn't just cull, even though those weren't his intentions.
He had every right to continue fishing, to pass the time. As long as he did not keep any of the fish he caught. Which he did not do, thus it was fine.
That's just my view on the situation anyways.

I'm sure the spot you saw was filmed early in the day. That is the magic of video taping it. What, did you think this was live? It would have been stupid to keep fishing when he was pretty confident he had $300,000.00 in his livewell. Stop thinking the worst of people.
I just watched my tape.
It was after he caught his last fish, he talks about fishing just to give himself some confidence he made the right decisions, and well basically which means peace of mind.

the shot was edited and was human error in their part. For some of you fisherman out there who didn't get a chance to attend the tourny there was huge amount of fish taken in the first 3 days of tourny but there was no way the could have all this on alotted time. I was personally hoping to see more weight in from the previous days cause there were alot of hogs brought in from the guys who made out into the big water! What way to have a tourny end having top dogs going at it in a finesse manner like they had to! We need more action orientated tourny's like this one more on tv!

The rules stated: When a tournament limit is reached, competitors will stop fishing. The conversatition with Scott made it clear that he had put his limit in the boat. This leads me to one assumption and it is not that he was cheating, because with a camera on you that would be stupid and Scott is far from stupid. Again this is only assumption on my part. The producers of the show ask him to fish during the interview to provide a little action and keep the flow of the show going.

I'm sorry to say this but Doug was wrong in what he posted about the RCL rules. There was no rule stating that after you reached your limit you had to stop fishing. We asked the DNR officer at the rules meeting, and were told as long as you did not replace or cull any of the fish you had already put into the livewell you were perfectly legal. We also asked about continuing to fish and were told you could fish until the time for weigh-in. I think it was a good defensive move on Scott's part to control the spot he had fished alone for four days.

But, I guess it would be "O K" to move into Scott's spot (4 days he was there) and beat him. Is that what you think, "Curious"?
There are winners and there are whiners.
Scott is a winner and one of the most dignified fishermen you will find.
You don't get to his level in a ny form of competition without a firm grasp of the rules.
This is a pretty silly thing to be bent out of shape about.
There were all the other fishermen , half of the state law enforcement folks and even TV cameras present.
I'm certain evrything was on the level.

Man, I just bet the RCL would film an illegal act and then televise it. I also hardly believe that a pro with as much on the line as any of them in any tourney would also break a law, on camera or off! NOT!!!!! It was not an illegal act, no rules/laws were broken. If you were not at the rules meeting, do not comment. I am not slamming just curious either.

I may well have been wrong in my assumption, I have been wrong many times before. However, at the rules meeting I asked Tournament Director Sonny Reynolds whether fishing could continue after five walleyes were placed in the livewell. The answer was, anglers must quit fishing when a tournament limit is reached.
Sonny if you are out there maybe you could clear this up.
