Considering doing some late ice fishing in Sturgeon Bay. Thought about Potawatomi or Larsons. Any suggestions for location and techniques. Thanks

Walleye Fever,

As of the last week, a walleye bite started in the shipping canal. Most fish were caught near weeds in 8-10 ft of water. Jigging w/ white or chartreuse rapalas was the best method. As for late ice, be careful. Lots of current out there. One day ice is great and the next after some runoff it's poor. Good luck.

You can usually fish around Potawatomi Park after the ice goes out on Larsen's Reef. Depending upon the weather, you may be able to ice fish until about April 15th. The ice near the boat landing stays in the shade of the bluff and stays around longer. I've fished on the ice there when boats were working open water 100 yards away. Setup in midafternoon and fish hard through sunset. Jigging works best as you won't want to be walking around on the ice in such shallow water. Stay on your seat. The schools of fish slide through around the islands off the boat ramp (Sawyer Harbor) around sunset. Flop a few pigs on the ice, watch the sun set, then head back for a cold one.
