I fished the St. Joe today on a charter sponsored by Searle drug company and they used Captain Hook. The weather was awesome but the fishing was terrible. We started at noon at the ramp at I-94 and motored upstream about 2.5 miles. We anchored at the top of a hole that was about 12-14 feet deep and set out two 4'' flatfish and had four guys on the boat that each drifted fresh spawn through the hole using three ways. Our bottom weight was 3/8. As we walked this through the hole, you could occasionally feel tiny taps. The only fish caught today on our boat was a two lb sucker!!! I talked to several other boats on the river and heard of only three steelhead caught today. As far as the charter captain, well, I asked him to give me some hints on potential walleye holes for future use and he simply said to try all the water from the I-94 bridge to Lake Michigan. Not a lot of help as this stretch is probably 5 miles in length!!!
So for now, the St. Joe was pretty quiet. I will go again, but will take minnows and crawlers to see if I can catch some fish.
