I am looking at GPS with map function.
I want a handheld for hunting but will be using for fishing Erie and Lake St. Clair, so I want a map function. the Magellan 330 looks awfully nice. Anyone tried one or used a comparable Garmin product?

thanks....looking to spend my Christmas money!

I just bought one and so far I like it. It holds two AA bateries and as far as I know is the only GPS that floats. The screens are easy to navagate and the display is clear.

For a limited time they are offering a CD-ROM that lets you customize your background map and details for free. I havent got the CD yet. So I havent had a chance to play with it.

The built in map that comes with the unit is basic and only shows major highways and waterways. The CD-ROM lets you customize the level of detail you see, including waterways.

Looks interesting, compares to Lowrance GM 100. Looks like more memory, floats, more $. $70 is a lot more in my book and the website stinks. It doesn't say that the mapsend marine cd will work although I asume it would. Would you need both CD's land and marine, if you wanted roads and navaids? Does the Lowrance have two cd's one marine and one land, or will the mapcreate show both land and marine? The marine charts are cool, it would have to run them also. I like the memory, amazing it has more that my first computer!!! Are there aftermarket cd's that will work with either unit?

Thanks,
Rob

I finally got a Magellan 330X for Christmas. My neighbor works in this Hi-Tech industry and has broght home a few different GPS units over the past few years. He knew about my wanting one and conspired with my wife to get me one.

I have been playing with it everyday since I got it. I got the MapSend streets CD and I have down-loaded some map regions to the hand-held. Very cool. So now I can drop way-points, make routes, upload and download routes to save - set alarms to alert me when I'm within a certain distance, Speed over ground, ETA, etc. a lot of cool stuff! Just now getting to the where I am going to input Latitude and Longitude coordinates so I can go find fishin' holes and such. Neat deal! The website does seem quite lame - they should have a discussion area.
