I am wondering if anyone is still using Wave Wackers, or some other product, to keep the waves from flowing into the back of their boat while backtrolling? I need some stern wave protection for when I am trolling the big lake to keep the rollers from crashing over the stern. Have any of you made your own systems? I tried looking up in the archieves with no luck. Thanks ahead for any help, and I am not affiliated with any product, just looking for some simple information to help keep me dryer.

There should be a number of threads in the archives regarding this subject. I recall a couple of them outlining the 'how-to' make your own.
I had the Wave Wacker brand from Herrick Enterprises on my previous rig. This was a must in the set-up and style I found to be the most productive in the fishing I like to do. I now have White Caps. A little less expensive, but just as effective. Again, a must with the backtrolling I enjoy, plus added safety factor on some of the bigger water I fish.

Splash plates can be made from polycarbonate. It's available at almost any local glass company. Polycarbonate is a type of plastic that is very strong and virtualy unbreakable, unlike regular plexiglass which will shatter if you bend it. Polycarbonate can be cold formed if you can bend it. This is an extremly hard thing to do with anything over 3/16" and even that can be a challange. I would recommend professional equipment to do so.I made a set for my boat. I started by making cardboard templates and holding them up to the back of the boat until I got what I wanted. I then traced it on the polycarbonate and bent it, added some rubber for around the motor, and riveted the rubber on. Then I screwed the splash plates on.
If I was to do it over again I would strongly consider just buyng a set and taking all that time I spent working on them and just go fishing.
Bending that polycarbonate can be a real SOB if you know what I mean...there should be a Doctors warning on there stating not to try this at home if you have an anger problem. lol
