JUST INSTALLED A NEW EAGLE OPTIMA ON MY BOAT AND HAVE READ ALL THE MANUAL ADJUSTMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE. ANY PREFERRED SETTINGS THAT YOU FOLKS USE AND WHY WOULD BE HELPFUL. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO SET IT ONCE AND BE DONE WITH IT, NOT CONSTANTLY CHANGING THE SETTINGS. ALSO, I KNOW ITS A LITTLE LATE, BUT ANY GOOD OR BAD REMARKS ABOUT THE OPTIMA. SOMETHIN I SHOULD WATCH FOR?

Since the Eagle doesn't have a memory to remember the user applied settings -- any settings that you set for a particular use -- have to be reset, each tinme the unit is powered up.

I typically use the factory auto settings for cruising and general structure finding.

Then when I find structure and want to check it over, I go to manual, set the scroll speed at max - set the gain until I see a double bottom - and look for fish. I typically leave the depth in auto -- so that if the depth changes, the range tracks.

Take care and enjoy

Ya
Good unit. I did have to replace one that quit. Company was good about it.

Recommend you turn fish id off and auto on. Play with it as often as you can. Maybe you should just take it out and play with it where you know the bottom to get used to it.

When you get used to it, turn auto off and work with power and gray line to see better.

Good luck.

Littlehooker:
A good place to start w/Optima is:
--MANUAL
--Chart speed MAX
--Sensitivity 87%
--Grayline 31%
--Surface clarity MEDIUM
--No FISH ID
I used my Optima for three years & loved it. Mine did store my settings and repeated them when I "rebooted".
I put an X-85 on a new (used) boat, and haven't achieved the readings yet that the Optima gave -- excellent unit.

Good graphin'!
