Pardon the spelling if it's wrong. I may be planning a trip to this lake, mid-summer, and I'm wondering if anyone that has fished the lake in the past can give me an idea as to what type of bite to expect. I've heard great things. Most tell me spinners or crankbaits. Any suggestions on baits or places to start?

I grew up fishing the lake. My folks live all of 100yds from the water! Wish I was still there. Fishing can be real good or real difficult. There is alot of water to fish. The van hook arm region has been the most productive fishing over the years, yet very good fishing can be had in the Beulah/Hazen bay areas. Summer time warrents the use of spinners and crawlers. A jig and a minnow can also be productive. Fish can be found from just a few feet in the weeds and trees up to 30 or 40 feet. My advice would be to move around. There is so much water to fish, continue to hit the points and the various structure. You will find them but don't expect to have them come to you! Check with the local bait shops and they will be helpful. Also make sure your boat can handle rough water. This lake can get VERY Rough. Winds up to 50 or 60 mph coming up in a hurry are not uncommon. This lake is one of the larger reserviors around and if your not careful it can bite you. Good Luck and be careful.
