I am looking for any info on fishing the river below Canyon Ferry Resevoir in Montana. How deep is it and can you run a full sized boat all the way down to Hauser. Any areas of caution ie gravel bars, islands ect. How is the fishing generally?

Thanks

Yes, you can run a full size boat from just below the dam at Canyon Ferry all the way to the dam at Hauser. There is a boat ramp just below the Dam at CF, this area is a 'no-wake' area from the ramp up to the safty line at the base of the dam, but just below the ramp is not 'no-wake'. As you go downstream for the first time proceed with caution (slowly) as there are gravel bars you will want to miss, although not hard to navigate as the water is clear, just try and stay in the main channel.
The fishing? I haven't heard lately but just below the dam can be good at times, mainly trout.

Thanks Mike,

How deep is the river out in front of the boat ramp? Have you tried fishing for walleye in the winter or early spring? I would like to go and give it a try as soon as I can get some work done to my boat. I am new to the Helena area and drove out the other day to take a look. It looks like a nice ramp and dock.

Good Luck and Good Fishing!
